The European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden is a partnership of 13 European countries with the mission to design, construct and operate the world’s most powerful neutron source.  Working with us means being part of a challenging and exciting work environment, at a stunning, brand new workplace filled with innovative minds and brilliant people from across the globe.  About the position  We are now looking to appoint a summer worker for Control Room Operations in the Operation division.  Operations group is responsible for running the neutron source (accelerator and target) along with the conventional facility systems. Moreover, our group is helping and supporting management and maintenance groups with information about availability and faults produced by the proton accelerator systems, target systems and the remaining auxiliary systems.  As software developer summer worker, you will join the control room operations group to work on the Fault Tracking tools. Your main areas of work will be to explore options to automatize the process of fault tracking and the data analysis coming from the initial tests. The assignment will involve collaboration with other members of operations group, but also in the other divisions like software groups and various stakeholders that are part of the larger scope for Fault Tracking activities.  About you  A suitable background for this position would be: • Enrolled at university, following a degree in one of following faculties: Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Electronics. • Python and/or Java programming experience. • Basic data analysis experience. • Basic understating of particle accelerator design and supporting systems. • Experience with editing content Sharepoint, Confluence, Wiki or similar software. • Good written and oral communication skills in English. • Minimum age 18 years. You are good at taking initiative and not afraid to ask questions.  Duration and location The position is a summer work position of 10 weeks, or as agreed. Planned start date is 9 June, 2025 or per agreement.
