Read more here: https://www.mdu.se/en/malardalen-university/education/doctoral-education Job description The graduate school “Teaching Practices and Technologies” is seeking four to five doctoral students in didactics. Research in didactics deals with issues of education, teaching and learning. Didactics includes questions about content, different educational contexts, and how content is legitimised. Furthermore, scientific didactics investigates the forms of teaching and learning (methods and models) as well as its actors (teachers and pupils/children) and their relationships. The research school is linked to a training environment for teacher education, where student teachers are given the opportunity to experiment, explore and practise (subject) didactic knowledge and skills using different technologies and modalities (different teaching resources, techniques and modes of expression, both digital and analogue). The Graduate School will take part in developing the training environment which will play a central role in teacher education at MDU. As a doctoral student in the graduate school, you will also belong to one of four research environments of the school, read more here https://www.mdu.se/en/malardalen-university/research/research-specialisations/educational-sciences-and-mathematics Dissertation projects Dissertation projects must address the theme of the graduate school, teaching practices and technologies, and be linked to one of the research environments. Prioritised research areas within the educational science research environment at MDU, are for instance - didactic issues related to school subjects. - teachers’ and preschool teachers’ competence in dealing with children and young people in need of special support - teachers’ and preschool teachers’ work and pedagogical leadership - pedagogical professions and teacher education - classroom interaction - the didactics of aesthetic subjects as well as interdisciplinary activities between different forms of aesthetic expression - issues of democracy, sustainability and justice from both a local and global perspective (global citizenship, global humanities) Qualifications For basic eligibility, one of the following is required: • an advanced-level degree • at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 are at an advanced level • equivalent knowledge acquired in Sweden or abroad through other means. Specific eligibility for admission to doctoral studies in education requires a degree including at least 60 credits of relevance to educational science and an independent degree project corresponding to 15 credits of relevance to educational science. During their undergraduate studies, applicants must have completed an approved degree project/independent project/thesis of at least 15 credits at second-cycle level (or equivalent). Special eligibility also applies to those who have acquired essentially equivalent knowledge in another way in Sweden or abroad. Good oral and written communication skills in Swedish and English are required to perform regular duties in research, teaching and administration. Assessment criteria A fundamental basis for assessment is the ability to benefit from doctoral studies. For this position, special emphasis will be placed on the applicant's preliminary thesis plan as well as previously completed independent work (especially degree projects at advanced level) with regard to independence, methodological clarity and theoretical awareness, analytical and stylistic rigour, as well as critical approach. A teaching degree or experience of professional teaching activities is an advantage. In an overall assessment of suitability, emphasis is also placed on personal abilities. All employees at MDU are expected to cooperate and treat colleagues and students with respect, take responsibility for the organisation and their own work duties and contribute to a positive work environment. In this recruitment we invite exploratory dissertation projects, and we are therefore looking for those who are driven by creativity, curiosity and critical thinking. We value the qualities that an even distribution of age and gender, as well as ethnic and cultural diversity, can contribute to the organization. Application The application is to be completed online. Please submit your application by clicking on the "Apply" button below. The applicant is responsible for ensuring that the application is complete in accordance with the advertisement and will reach the University no later than closing date for the application.
